Hello and welcome to the Greenstein Dental blog.

If you happen to live in the Miami, Florida area, we’d love to see your smiling face in one of our chairs this summer. Preventive dentistry is the key to creating and maintaining a beautiful smile. Entrusting your oral health to us will allow you to have peace of mind when it comes to your teeth and gums. Yes, let’s not forget your gums, those unsung heroes who hold it all together, so to speak.

Gum disease is actually what we wanted to address in today’s post. Keep reading, and then be sure to follow up with our team to schedule your next appointment.

It Starts As Gingivitis

Gum disease actually starts out as a bacterial infection called gingivitis. This condition is marked by tender gums and bad breath. It is the result of plaque that has evaded your toothbrush and slipped down below your gumline.

Fortunately, if gingivitis is detected early enough, it can be easily treated and reversed. The bad news is that it often goes unnoticed until a professional identifies the problem. You won’t have much to worry about if you are a regular visitor to our Florida office.

But if gum disease is allowed to run wild, you can be sure that there will be consequences and they won’t be pretty!

From Bad To Worse

As gum disease gets more severe it is called periodontal disease. Folks with periodontal disease often have loosened up teeth or teeth that have fallen out entirely because the infection has deteriorated the bone and eroded the gums to the point that there is no support structure left.

Tooth loss will be bad enough and will add untold pain and expense to your life. But if the bacteria that causes gum disease gets into your bloodstream, worse things than that become possible. Gum disease has recently been linked with heart disease, respiratory issues, and some forms of cancer!

Don’t let it come to that.

We Are On Your Side!

Our team can prevent gum disease or catch it early, if you give us the chance to stay in-tune with the ever-changing situation in your mouth. That’s why we want to see your smiling face every 3-6 months for regular teeth cleanings and dental exams.

If it is too late for prevention, we will switch into restorative mode. Our team can treat your gum disease and reverse its effects through minimally invasive procedures designed to restore the health of your gums.

These solutions include: scaling/root planing, localized application of antibiotics in periodontal pockets, deep pocket laser therapy, crown lengthening, and gum grafting.

We will try to make it as easy and painless as possible to take back your life.

Don’t delay, your problems won’t just go away!
